#5 Singin' in the Rain

OK, so this is a fun movie, but really... they just built a plot around all of the music- Fabo music so it worked for this movie, but again- thought it could have done without a few scenes. Namely the dream sequence with all of the weird dancing. The comedy in it and the wonderful singing and dancing by the lead and supporting actors really made up for what I didn't like, but I don't think I will watch it again anytime soon. It was good at times, great at even more times and terribly boring a few times. All in all an ok flick. Many people love it. I'll say I didn't hate it and enjoyed much of it.

  1. I have to admit, Dereth....I love this movie. :) But then, I am a sucker for cheesy musicals, so I guess it fits right in!

  2. I totally agree on the weird dream sequence, weird dancing, etc. but overall I LOVE that movie. Did you know that she hadn't danced before that movie?! Makes it more amazing, I think.

  4. I didn't know that she had never danced. WOW that's amazing. If I watch it again I will know what parts I like and what ones I don't. That's what I do with a lot of movies I watch over and over. I've been in the mood to watch Pride and Prejudice and I will fast forward to certain scenes... mainly the ones with "Mr. Darcy" :)

  5. A bit more trivia: Debbie Reynolds was 19 when she did this film; Gene Kelly insulted her because she couldn't dance; Fred Astaire saw her crying off set and helped her with her dancing. The songs were written first, and the plot was put together to showcase the songs! That's why this is a movie where everyone loves the songs, but doesn't care much for the plot.

For me, this movie is like "Casablanca" -- so many people went on and on about it before I saw it the first time that I was thinking, "What's the big deal; this is boring", when I finally saw it. Jean Hagen was nominated for her role as Lina Lamont, along with the music score, but neither won. Gene Kelly won big the year before for "An American in Paris", which is another film where the script was written to accommodate a piece of music.
