#3 Casablanca

I loved this movie! I can't believe I have never seen it before now. I will be adding it to my collection for sure! The filming was amazing, the music wonderful and the acting was top of the line. Had I lived back in the 40's I would have been in love with Humphrey Bogart... maybe I am a little bit already!

  1. Yes this one is classic. I like it too. I haven't seen it in a while . . . maybe I should check it out for old time sake.

  2. While others are having trouble understanding all they hype around "Citizen Kane", "Casablanca" is the film I never understood what all the hoopla was about. I guess it's too cliche for my tastes ... I'm not a big fan of romance. That being said, I can watch Ingrid Bergman for days without getting bored. She is exquisite! And I'm a big fan of Paul Henreid, who played Victor Laszlo, and Claude Rains, who played Captain Renault.

When AFI listed the "100 Greatest Movie Quotes", there were more quotes included from "Casablanca" than any other film. My favorite scene is when Captain Renault is told to close down the club. He states he doesn't have a reason to close it, and is told to "come up with something quick". He blows his whistle, and announces the club is closed because he is "shocked to find there is gambling going on", then one of the employees steps up to give him his winnings! He says thank you and quickly pockets the money.

This movie won Best Picture in 1943. Humphrey Bogart was nominated for best actor, but lost to another actor in another film, neither of which I'm sure anyone has heard of, seen, or remembers. Turner Classic Movies showed over 60 films starring Humphrey Bogart, in December, to celebrate the 100th anniversary of his birth, on 12/25. I think I liked him more in "Dark Passage", "The Treasure of the Sierra Madre", and "The Maltese Falcon".
