Peter O'Toole is a great actor- I had never seen this movie before, but I'd seen him as Don Quixote in Man of La Mancha- a movie and musical that I love. What I found impressive after looking at his imdb page was how many movies he's been in and also how many recent movies. Other than taking off a few years here and there he's had regular work (often every year) since 1956! He has one film in 2010 and two in 2011! Lawrence of Arabia will not make my list of favorite movies, but I have to say I'm ready to watch more of Peter O'Toole.

Lawrence of Arabia

I don't think I've ever watched this movie from beginning to end without distractions. I'll get a phone call or someone else in the room will start a conversation, and I'll leave the movie running to attend to the distraction. I guess that's because it moves so slowly, and I don't think I'm going to miss anything. One day, I should put the DVD in and make an effort to pause it when a distraction pops up.
ReplyDeletePeter O'Toole is truly a great actor. He has been nominated for 8 Oscars, his performance as Lawrence being the first. He received an honorary Oscar in 2003, and I remember reading that he was reluctant to accept it, because he felt it was for a lifetime of work, and he was definitely not finished!
My favorite performance of his is in "The Last Emperor", which is not on your list, but I highly recommend it. I don't know if I have it in my personal library, but I would love to see it again, if you'd care to watch it with me.
I recently saw two more O'Toole movies for the first time, and I think you might enjoy them. They are "Becket" and "The Lion in Winter". He plays England's king Henry II in both films. "Becket" occurs in time before "Lion" and was also made first.
